A few days ago, a big snow storm hit the East coast.

A Turtle / Una tortuguita

We went to a butterfly festival that had bugs and animals and other things too. But there was a place you could go into to see turtles and here is a picture of a little turtle.

Fuimos a un festival de mariposas que tenía bicharracos y animales. Había un sitio en el que podías entrar a mirar tortuguitas, entré adentro y aquí esta una foto de una de las tortugas.

Eew a Cockroach / Una cucaracha uagh

We went to a butterfly festival and there was a lot of bugs like this Madagascar hissing cockroach, it was pretty big........ewww.

Fuimos a un festival de mariposas y vimos una cucaracha de Madagascar que era bien grande....uagh.

A Frog / Una rana

We found a frog in our yard, it was really cool. After we took pictures of it we had to let it go.

Encontramos una rana en nuestro jardín, era bien bonita, después de tomarle unas cuantas fotos la soltamos otra vez.

2008 in Long Island, New York

We took these pictures in winter 2008, in the Long Island sound in New York, around the Stony Brook area. During summer, this is a great place to swim and kayak. One day in late spring, while walking on the shore, we found the cutest baby snapping turtle ever!

Estas fotos fueron tomadas en invierno en Nueva York, en la costa norte de Long Island, que es como una gran bahía entre la isla y el continente. Las imágenes son de la zona de Stony Brook. En verano es un lugar excelente para nadar y hacer kayak. Un día de primavera, cuando caminábamamos por la playa, encontramos una lindísima tortuguita. Cuando crecen muerden!

While living in Long Island, we rented a house in a suburb, about 50 miles from New York city. In fall the trees look incredibly beautiful.

El año que vivimos en Long Island alquilamos una casa en un suburbio, como a 80 kilómetros de la ciudad de Nuev York. Los árboles se ponen muy hermosos en otoño.

It has been a wet summer / Es un verano de mucha lluvia

So far, it seems that this 2009 summer could be the coolest (coldest) in 140 years of record keeping in the New York area, and it has been raining almost every other day. The pictures shows some cute mushrooms growing on our front yard.

Parece que este verano del 2009 puede ser el más frío en 140 años que se registran estadísticas en la zona de Nueva York. Y ha estado lloviendo muchísimo. En la foto se ven unos hongos (setas) que han crecido en el jardín delantero de la casa.

A little Sailboat makes a nice peaceful view. It was a great beach day.

Summer building / Construcciones de verano

With a LOT of help from my friends, we built the fence! (We forgot to take pictures the day of the build-a-fence-party). Many thanks to all!

This is the pond that we built, surrounded by a drainage system (three tons of river rock!) Last year we had a different pond. This is our new and improved design.

Este es el estanque que construimos, rodeado de un sistema bastante profundo de drenaje (usamos tres toneladas de piedritas de río). El año pasado nuestro estanque era diferente. Este es nuestro nuevo diseño.

We went to the creek and hunted for fish and snails for our new pond.

Our beautiful flower / Una flor bonita

This is one of our flowers. It is very beautiful, and its name is "Spanish Flag" because it has the colors of the Spanish Flag.

Esta es una de nuestras flores en nuestro jardín, es preciosa y tiene los colores de la bandera de España, por eso se llama "bandera española".

A Day at the Beach / Un día en la playa

Our tree was getting sick, so we put cement in it to stop it from rotting. When the cement dried, it looked like sand. We put an umbrella in, and happy little Lego people came.

Nuestro árbol estaba un poco enfermo, así que le pusímos cemento para que no se pudra. Cuando se secó el cemento parecía arena. Pusimos una sombrilla y vinieron tres personitas de Lego a la playita.
